Smiths Fort Plantation - Roof Replacement

Smiths Fort Plantation is a circa 1761 home, located in Surry County, Virginia. Smiths fort is owned and operated by APVA Preservation Virginia. Black Creek Workshop had the opportunity to replace the roof with traditional 18th century wood shingles.

The house gets its name from Captain John Smith who proposed establishing a fort at the location which is across the James River from Jamestown.

Black Creek Workshop stripped the old roof off of the house and shingled the entire roof, including swept valleys around the three prominent dormers, which is a prominent feature on Virginia homes of the era.
